Press Release
First marketed in 2001
The 100,000th Suberb, currently the largest and most prestigious Škoda model, today left the Škoda Auto assembly line in Kvasiny. The limousine was fitted with a petrol 1.8 Turbo/110 kW engine and ordered by Golden Telecom, a key fleet customer of the brand in the Ukraine.
During the ceremony, Horst Mühl, the member of the board of directors of Škoda Auto, a.s. responsible for production and logistics, said, “The decision to produce a medium-high class car strengthened Škoda's position on demanding markets and significantly contributed to the growth of its value and prestige. The fact that the Superb model successfully established itself despite competition from luxury brands confirms our opinion that Škoda's return to the higher class was logical and correct.”
Since the end of 2001, when it was first marketed, the Škoda Superb has undergone a number of comparative tests in domestic and foreign motoring media, where, thanks to its quality, efficiency and value for money, it has defeated competing cars from traditional brands. The Superb model also won several important international awards. In Great Britain it is the holder of the title “The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year”, the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers declared it “Luxury Car of the Year”, the Škoda Superb is the “Car of the Year” in Yugoslavia and the Ukraine, the “Managers' Car of the Year” in Lithuania and “Most Popular Car of the Year in the Czech Republic. The Škoda Superb finished a close second in the “Medium and Medium-High Class Car” category of the prestigious “Golden Steering Wheel” competition and overall fourth in the Europe-wide “Auto car poll. A Škoda Superb is also used by the president of the Czech Republic, Václav Klaus. Škoda produced a prestige car with the same name – the Škoda Superb – between 1934 and 1949.
The four-door Škoda Superb limousine, which has an extraordinary amount of internal space and a wealth of accessories, has been available since the beginning of August a modern version for 2007 with a number of design innovations and technical changes. The price of the basic Superb model, however, has not been altered and is still CZK 619,900 (Classic 2.0/85 kW model), although the standard accessories now include light alloy aluminium wheels, automatic Climatronic air-conditioning, four airbags, ABS+EDS systems with a braking assistant, electrical control of the front and back windows, tinted glass and a folding and split rear seat.
