SPY PHOTOS: ASC Viper Diamondback
At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, ASC (American Specialty Cars) showed off their Viper Diamondback, a Dodge Viper SRT10 that is both lighter and more powerful than the standard SRT10 for improved performance. Now these latest photos, taken in the US southwest, capture a prototype of this car undergoing testing, thus showing that it is likely headed for production.
The hood, roof, deck lid, and several other panels are made from carbon fiber, reducing the car’s weight by a reported 85 pounds. In addition, McLaren Performance Technologies has done its magic on the Viper’s 8.3-litre Hemi V10 engine, raising its output from the standard 500 horsepower to 615 or possibly even more. Zero to sixty time is estimated to be just 3.5 seconds for this ultra-performance Viper.
Visually setting this car apart from normal Vipers is the huge carbon fiber hood that has six large vents located towards the front of the hood, rather than the normal SRT10’s smaller vents located at the rear of the hood. The car is expected to go into limited production sometime next year.
