AMG Power for Mercedes C, GL, R-Class and CL
While AMG once was an independent company, it now is an integral part of Mercedes, developing high-performance versions of virtually every car that Mercedes sells. AMG models have more power, more style, and a certain exclusivity that appeal to the performance buyer. As such, AMG sales have increased in recent years so that about one in 20 Mercedes cars sold in the US is an AMG version.
Development and testing of the AMG models must be just as thorough as that of the standard production models. After all, they carry the full Mercedes warranty. In fact new Mercedes cars are designed right from the start with the AMG version in mind.
Mercedes C 63 AMG:
Mercedes’ new-generation C-Class will be available as C 63 AMG . It gets power from AMG’s 6.3-litre V8 delivering 520 bhp - likely to be reduced to around 400 to 420 bhp for the compact sedan. With this, the car is still on the same level as BMW’s upcoming competitor, the M3. It is expected to come on the market after the C’s launch at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, possibly at the 2008 Geneva Show.
Mercedes GL 63 AMG:
While Daimler-Chrysler’s largest new off roader GL-Class just about to arrive in dealerships, the even more powerful AMG version is currently being tested in the streets of Stuttgart. Just like all AMG models, it can be recognized from the two large double exhaust pipes and sportier air intakes in the front skirt It will also be equipped with a 6.3 litre V8 engine.
Mercedes R 63 AMG:
Already released to the public, the Mercedes R 63 AMG still carries out final testing, this time at Nürburgring. Mercedes has announced deliveries to begin this autumn. Click here for more details: R 63 AMG Details
Mercedes CL 63 AMG
Daimler Chrysler has just launched the new Mercedes CL to hit the showrooms from September 2006 on, and here is now the even more powerful AMG version. Mercedes recently previewed the optional CL Class AMG Styling package which shows the precise look of the new AMG coupe. The CL AMG will be due in spring 2007 and furthermore equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission, ceramic brakes and additional air intakes in the front skirt. Much like in the BMW M series, the Mercedes AMG models can be recognized from the four big exhaust pipes.
The photos are showing 2 pictures each of the four prototypes.
