More Luxury and Refinement

Along with the interior and exterior design refinements Volvo is introducing two important new petrol engines for the new XC90.

New, more powerful 3.2-litre (238PS) six-cylinder and 4.4-litre V8 (315PS) petrol engines replace the five-cylinder 2.5T (210PS) and six-cylinder T6 (272PS).

Volvo has also increased quality and luxury by improving materials and specifications, adding the choice of a new, plusher SE Lux trim and a revised top-of-the-range Executive model.

All models benefit from the introduction of an MP3/i-Pod Aux input for the audio system which will now play music recorded in MP3/WMA format, body-coloured door handles and side rubbing strips, new larger door mirrors with integrated side indicators, plus new front and rear skid plate and chrome insert above the rear number plate. New paint colours introduced are Shadow Blue pearl, Inscription™ Electric Silver coarse flake paint and Inscription™ White pearl (Executive only).

Interior design updates include an upgraded centre console with new display for audio and telephone system (if fitted), new door handles with more tactile black centre area, the added convenience of one-touch mode for the indicators, while satin chrome touches have been added to the edge of audio and ventilation controls, wiper/indicator column stalks, air vent controls and along the edge of steering wheel remote controls. The tops of all dashboards will now be in either Off-Black, Umbra or Espresso to reduce potential reflections on the windscreen and create a two-tone colour scheme.

S and SE

Improvements to the specification of the S model, which is now only available with the D5 engine, include new ‘Marstrand’ textile upholstery, new ‘Manganite’ silver inlays for doors and dashboard, while a leather gear knob and rear load cover become standard. The popular SE model, available with the D5, 3.2 or V8 engine, also gains body-coloured wheel arches.

SE Lux

The new SE Lux trim level joins the XC90 range between the SE and Executive models. It adds numerous luxuries above and beyond the SE specification, including superior Sovereign hide soft leather upholstery, chronograph instrument dials, new Sapeli wood inlays and power and heated driver and passenger seats with seat memory and door mirror memory.

Externally, the SE Lux is differentiated by new 18in Camulus alloy wheels, brushed aluminium roof rails, Bi-Xenon headlamps with power washers and folding door mirrors with water repellent glass and ground lights.

Executive

Following customer requests for even higher specifications and first-class luxury, Volvo has extensively updated and enhanced the flagship XC90 Executive model.

Externally, the new Executive is distinguished by new styling cues such as larger 19in Galateia alloy wheels and extended body-coloured wheel arches, a silver-coloured front skid plate, chromed C-pillar (with Executive emblem) and satin chrome covers for the new door mirrors, plus chrome trim inserts to the air vents in the front bumper and under the rear lights. It also has Volvo’s new Active Bi-xenon headlights that swivel 15 degrees in each direction to improve the driver's view of the road ahead.

The exclusive Executive soft leather upholstery with contrasting stitching and edging immediately creates a more luxurious impression and is now fitted to all three rows of seats. In addition, a new, rich chestnut upholstery colour is added to the choices of linen white and off black, plus it is also now possible to choose from the eight colour combinations of Volvo’s optional Inscription™ soft leather upholstery.

The upgraded Dynaudio Premium Sound audio system with Dolby Pro logic II Digital Surround Sound increases its output to 650W thanks to five 130W amplifiers with 12 top quality Dynaudio speakers (designed specifically for the XC90) and the addition of an Aux input for an MP3/i-Pod.

The standard RTI satellite navigation system with RDS-TMC is also upgraded for the 2007 models to offer faster route calculation thanks to its new, integrated 30Gb hard disk drive. Its other benefits include an improved display and advanced search options for parking and points of interest.

The high specification also includes a fridge in the centre armrest, heated front seats, chronograph instrument dials, walnut wood inlays for centre console and gear knob, brushed aluminium roof rails, unique Executive grille, luxury floor mats and metallic paint as standard.

Technical Specifications

With five, six and V8 engines now available, the new XC90 engine range offers the choice of economy and new levels of performance. The engine range still includes Volvo’s acclaimed D5 turbodiesel and is joined by Volvo’s V8 engine, which by popular demand is being introduced in right-hand drive for the UK, along with a new 3.2, in-line six-cylinder engine – which replace the 2.5T (210PS) and T6 (272PS) engines previously available.

V8

The new V8 tops the range offering 315PS of power with 440Nm of torque. This translates to high performance, with 0-60mph possible in 6.9 seconds and an electronically limited 130mph top speed, while achieving 20.9mpg on the official Combined cycle. It has a six-speed Geartronic transmission as standard and is also one of the cleanest V8 engines available with CO2 emissions of 322g/km.

3.2

The new, in-line 3.2 in-line six-cylinder petrol engine offers 238PS with 320Nm of torque. This gives a 0-60mph time of 8.9 seconds (with standard six-speed Geartronic transmission) and a top speed of 130mph. The engine delivers 23.9mpg on the Combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 281g/km.

D5

The popular, five-cylinder D5 turbodiesel offers 185PS and 400Nm of torque from 2,000rpm with 0-60mph available in 10.3 seconds with the standard six-speed manual transmission, or 11.1 seconds with the optional 6-speed Geartronic, with CO2 emissions of 219g/km or 239g/km respectively. It delivers 34.0mpg (manual) or 31.4mpg (Geartronic) on the official Combined cycle.

New Options

Some of the luxury items on the SE Lux and Executive models are also available as options for other models in the range, such as the upgraded RTI satellite navigation system with 32Gb hard drive – available separately or as part of a Communications Pack (which includes integrated telephone) – Active Bi-Xenon headlights (also available in an option pack which includes heated front seats and luxury floor mats) and the 650W Dynaudio Premium Sound audio system.

Style-wise, there are new alloy wheel options available. There is a choice of a new 17in Neptune alloy wheel, the 18in Atlantis alloy wheel (standard on the SE) can now be upgraded to polished or chrome versions, while the SE Lux’s new 18in Camulus is available as a no cost option.

Availability

The new XC90 is now available to order with first deliveries to customers expected from June. The new XC90 will be making its UK show debut at the British International Motor Show in July.
