Wins prestigious Red Dot Award
The ‘Aeroblade’, the exclusive hand-built titanium bicycle by Koga and Spyker, has won the prestigious international Red Dot Award for Best Product Design 2006 in the category Leisure, Sports & Wellness. With over 4,000 entries from 40 countries, the Red Dot Design Award ranks among the largest design competitions worldwide. The jury includes international and independent experts who evaluate the design quality of each submitted product.
Spyker, manufacturer of high-quality sports cars, provided the design input for the Aeroblade which was recently introduced in December 2005. It was developed and built by Koga, manufacturer of top end bicycles. The award ceremony for the Red dot Award: Product Design 2006 will take place on 26 June 2006 at the Essen Opera in Germany.
The Aeroblade
Its features include a titanium frame, an aluminum front fork, wheel set and mudguards from aluminum covered carbon composite, Hulshof luxury leather handle bar grips and saddle and a special version of the Rohloff 14 speed hub gear transmission. The bike weighs 12,8 kg only. Each bike is custom-built for its new owner and individually numbered. The retail price of the bike is 10,500 euro/12,540 USD ex VAT. A limited edition series of 50 bicycles is currently in production.
The design includes the Spyker logo engraved on the chain cover and imprinted on the saddle and the saddle bag. The design of the mudguards has been based on the form of airplane wheel fairings as well as the swirled aluminum dashboard of the current Spykers. The colours of Spyker’s race car, the Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R, are reflected in the bike’s silver and orange colour combination. The spokes of the Koga Aeroblade wheels are reminiscent of Spyker’s own Aeroblade™ wheels, a reflection of Spyker’s logo consisting of a propeller and a spoke wheel (introduced in 1914).
Spyker and Koga are both exclusive Dutch brands of high quality hand built exclusive products for those demanding clients who want only the best. They share a mutual passion for heritage, design, craftsmanship, performance and exclusivity which are reflected in both companies’ exclusive products.
