The new name for Opel’s flagship and top model in the Signum range is the faster, more powerful and more exclusive “Signum Sport 2.8 V6 Turbo S”, debuting at the Geneva Motor Show (March 2 - 12, 2006). The 2.8-liter, V6 engine with twin-scroll turbocharger and 184 kW/250 hp delivers maximum torque of 350 Nm from 1800 to 4500 rpm for superb pulling power. The ultra-modern high-tech engine provides very high driving performance with moderate fuel consumption. The new Signum Sport 2.8 V6 Turbo S accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds, has a top speed of 250 km/h and average fuel consumption of 10.6 liters per 100 kilometers. These values refer to the version with six-speed manual transmission as standard. A six-speed automatic gearbox is also available. The Signum Sport 2.8 V6 Turbo S can be ordered now, with prices starting at 35,290 euros.
The eye-catching trait of Opel’s new top model is standard 18-inch alloy wheels in Y-spoke design with 225/45 R18 tires. Also standard are the adaptive IDSPlus (Interactive Driving System) chassis with electronic Continuous Damping Control (CDC), sport mode (SportSwitch), automatic air conditioning, sports seats in front, fabric/leather upholstery, on-board computer, CD-Radio with remote controls on steering wheel and fog lights. Optional extras include high-quality technology highlights such as AFL bi-xenon headlamps (Adaptive Forward Lighting) with dynamic curve and static cornering light, orthopedically recommended, climate-controlled MultiContour driver’s seat and cellular phone portal with Bluetooth interface and voice control.
The new top model benefits both visually and technically from the Signum’s characteristic strengths. The front design, completely updated mid-2005, is now more striking, dynamic and in progressive Opel design language. The interior has been enhanced with high-quality materials and surfaces, as well as a redesigned instrument panel. The clever FlexSpace seating system provides the Signum’s maximum versatility. The two outer rear seats can be individually adjusted 130 mm lengthwise to offer maximum leg room or more luggage space, and the seatbacks can be reclined up to 30 degrees. The fully functional center seat is very versatile. A storage console is created when the cushion is rotated, while folding down the seatback creates an armrest. The Opel Signum’s innovative concept impressed both customers and automotive journalists alike. In March 2005, the Signum came out the clear winner in Auto Bild’s comparison test of four international models. It also achieved top marks in quality and reliability: in the J.D Power Report 2005 for Germany customer satisfaction index, the Signum was ranked best German model.
