Turbocharged 147bhp hatchback

Independent performance tests on Mitsubishi’s newly-launched flagship Colt CZT have confirmed that the turbocharged 147bhp hatchback is quicker to 60mph than ALL its direct rivals.

Pitched against the £14,995 MG ZR 160 and the £13,595 Ford Fiesta ST, the £12,999 CZT completed the benchmark sprint in just 7.2 seconds with the ZR taking 7.4 seconds and the Fiesta trailing behind at 7.9 seconds.

Furthermore, Mitsubishi’s star performer also squares up to significantly more expensive machines with much more power, like the £15,500 SEAT Ibiza Cupra (0-62 in 7.3 seconds) and the £15,215 Peugeot 206 GTI-180 (0-62 in 7.4 seconds).

But it is not just class-leading acceleration that makes Mitsubishi’s newcomer stand out. Standard equipment is very generous at the £12,999 price tag with electric windows, electric mirrors, electronic stability control, ABS, four airbags, air conditioning, trip computer, leather steering wheel, 16-inch alloys and a body kit all part of the deal.

The Mitsubishi Colt CZT is also one of the very few cars in its class to offer an unlimited mileage warranty and service intervals of 12,000 miles; add to this best-in-class economy figures at 41.5mpg (combined cycle) and you have a car which is as good on the pocket as it is to drive.

On sale now at Mitsubishi dealers across the UK, the CZT tops a comprehensive Colt range, which includes three and five-door body styles plus a choice of four petrol engines and one diesel. Prices start from just £7,499 on the road.
