New 150 PS TDI Diesel engine
Ford continues to build on the strengths and 'travel first class' character of its popular, seven-seat people mover, the Ford Galaxy, with the addition of a powerful new, 150 PS TDI Diesel engine for even more performance and responsiveness. With the addition of the 150 PS, 1.9-litre turbodiesel variant, Ford Galaxy now boasts a selection of seven engine options as well as transmission choices that include 5- and 6-speed manuals, a four-speed automatic and 5-speed select-shift automatic.
The new pumpe-düse unit-injection TDI engine is expected to boost Ford Galaxy's appeal in the European - especially in its top-selling market, Germany - after a successful 2004 in which Galaxy's sales volume eclipsed the Volkswagen Sharan in Western Europe.
Rated at 150 PS (110 kW) and 310 Nm (229 lb.-ft.), the new Diesel powertrain provides the Ford Galaxy with a new top speed rating of 199 kph (124 mph) and improved acceleration over its already sporty 130 PS (96 kW) stablemate. The new top-of-the-range Galaxy TDI now accelerates from zero to 100 kph (62 mph) in 11.9 seconds and has greater elasticity in-gear, accelerating from 80 to 120 kph in 12.9 seconds in fifth gear and 16.5 seconds in sixth gear.
"The real difference with this more powerful engine is in real-life driving," said This Woelpern of Ford of Europe's large car team. "Its improved acceleration is ideal for overtaking manoeuvres, and the higher top-speed rating will make a difference to customers who drive Galaxy on the German Autobahns."
The new 150-PS TDI adds to Galaxy's renowned versatility and the driving ease which has fuelled its popularity among family and business users.
The 150-PS Galaxy is ideal for outfitting with an available style package that includes 17-by-7-inch, six-spoke cast aluminium wheels, a lowered sports suspension and privacy glass for a sporty appearance. Furthermore the bodyside mouldings are eliminated for a sleek image and stretched visual effect.
Chrome effects - including the grille and optional roof rail - communicate Galaxy's luxury and comfort.
Galaxy technologies include standard air conditioning (dual-zone automatic temperature control on Ghia models), an array of satellite navigation systems and audio systems and an available DVD rear-seat multi-media entertainment system. Xenon headlamps and park assist in the front and the rear add to the technology offerings.
Galaxy continues to offer up to four integrated child seats on the outer seats of the second and third seating rows for children between 11 months and 12 years of age.
Equipped with the 150-PS TDI, the Ford Galaxy is fuel-consumption rated, in litres per 100 kilometres, at a moderate 6.3 (44.9 mpg) combined, [8.1 (34.9 mpg) city, 5.2 (54.3 mpg) highway]. CO 2 emissions are rated at 170 grams per kilometre in the combined mode.
