Power boost to 122 bhp
Parallel to the launch of the smart forfour edition sportstyle, a limited edition of which just 500 cars will be produced, a power kit boosting the power from 80 kW to 90 kW (109 bhp to 122 bhp) is now also available for production cars with 1.5 litre petrol engines. The "sB3" power kit increases the maximum torque from 145 to 160 Newton metres. The performance - that already deserves to be called sporty for the model with 109 bhp and 1.5 litre engine capacity - is greatly enhanced with a maximum speed 195 km/h and acceleration from 0 - 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. These hard facts are manifested in even more dynamic driving pleasure for drivers of the smart forfour edition sportstyle and customers who have the power kit fitted in their smart forfour. The boost to 90 kW (122 bhp) further increases the possibilities for individualisation of the smart forfour and enables buyers to tailor their vehicle even more closely to their needs.
New body styling parts from smart-BRABUS are also available to give expression to the increased power in the appearance. The power boost and the sporty body styling parts offer a foretaste of the smart forfour BRABUS that will be added to the product portfolio next spring.
The increased performance is achieved with different camshafts which result in longer timing and more valve lift. Stronger valve springs allow the increased valve acceleration. New ignition and injection maps are programmed in the engine controller by the smart centres which also carry out the mechanical conversion work. In Germany, the power kit has a price tag of € 1,499 (incl. VAT) not including installation costs. The installation costs around € 200.
A red sticker on the controller with the component and software codes documents the power boost, and the lettering "sB3" adorns the engine cover. The power increase is already included in the EC type approval for the smart forfour which means that a visit to the registration office is all that is needed to enter this feature in the registration papers.
