This innovation is evident in many more ways, including the incorporation of a foldaway front passenger's seat and a luggage rack at the rear that pulls out like a drawer to carry heavy items or sports clothing which is too dirty to travel inside.
And the good news doesn't stop there???????????????????????????????? GM took to the winners' podium for a second time during the evening to collect the technology award for the outstanding progress the company has made with fuel cells.
Larry Burns, GM Vice President for Research, Development and Planning, arrived from the States to collect the technology award saying: "It's fantastic to be able to help drive change in our industry, and GM is thrilled to receive this technology award from Autocar for our fuel cell developments!"
This year has seen GM making huge strides in fuel cell technology, illustrated both by the immensely successful Fuel Cell Marathon, which saw the Opel Zafira-based HydroGen3 driving across Europe from North Cape to Lisbon, covering 9,696 km in just 38 days. The company recently announced that it is to replace its ground-breaking Hy-wire with an even more advanced and innovative concept in the new year.
Autocar editor, Rob Aherne, praised this progress with fuel cells commenting, "GM's alternative-fuels program encompasses everything from Zafiras powered by a hydrogen fuel cell to mild hybrid trucks that are gradually weaning America off petrol engines. There's real commitment at every level. "
With cutting edge technology in alternative fuels from LPG (liquid petroleum gas), CNG (compressed natural gas) to hybrids and hydrogen fuels cells, GM is making sure its cars will continue being exciting to drive for the next century and beyond.
