Mercedes-Benz Viano and Vito Available with Particulate Filter
First vehicles in this segment
Press Release
- First vehicles in this segment with a particulate filter
- Further improvement in exhaust quality
- Filter system without additives; very high operating mileage
Controlled combustion of the particles without additives
The new emission control system consists of a combined oxidation catalytic converter and a silicon carbide particulate filter. Temperature and pressure sensors monitor the load status of the filter. The filter is regenerated by controlled combustion of the filtered particles at regular intervals. During the process the exhaust temperature is increased to more than 550 degrees Celsius, either automatically a high engine loads and engine speeds or by metered post-injection of diesel fuel.No additives are required for regeneration of the filter. No filter replacement is necessary as part of the vehicle's service intervals. The particulate filter system developed by Mercedes-Benz remains effective over a very high vehicle mileage, a major difference versus other processes. Since their presentation in summer 2003 the new Mercedes-Benz Viano and Vito have remained the only vehicles of their type which are optionally available with an EU 4/III exhaust emissions classification.
