Companion for active leisure time

Those who are into active leisure-time pursuits will surely appreciate the advantages of the BMW X3, which is an ideal companion for active leisure time enthusiasts. In conjunction with the roof rails and the multifunction BMW roof rack system, which allow easy fastening of roof boxes, ski, snowboard or bicycle carriers, the X3 can easily be converted into a leisure vehicle. To allow for transportation of two mountain bikes or racing bikes in the interior, a special carrier system has been conceived that can be mounted to the luggage compartment rails in no time at all. The bike's rear wheel stands on light metal rails and is securely fixed. The only thing which has to be done prior to loading is to dismount the front wheel and the saddle. The saddle is stored in the foot well and the front wheel is fixed to the frame by means of a strap. Those who wish to make full use of the luggage space and the seats in the rear compartment while en route, can use the original BMW rear-mounted carrier, which is fastened to the roof rails, to transport up to three bicycles. And for those who whish to transport a snowboard or paraglider, the accessory program includes all the necessities for safe transport such as straps, a folding box, a luggage-compartment box or a durable luggage-compartment mat.

Attractive aerodynamic kit

The aerodynamic kit gives particular emphasis to the sporty character of the X3, blends harmoniously into the vehicle's appearance and gives the owner yet another opportunity for individualisation. The package comprises bumpers primed, side sills, wheel arch trims, foot boards, modified fog lights, an additional rear lid trim and all add-on accessories. The specially shaped rear bumper requires the installation of the chrome-plated exhaust pipe cover or, alternatively, the sports rear muffler included in the accessory program. Featuring oblique exhaust tips, both options add to the sporty character, which is further enhanced by the gutsy, sonorous sound produced by the stainless-steel sports exhaust. The "Launch" edition includes the sports rear muffler. As the wheels are crucial to the design of a vehicle, BMW offers, in addition to its standard wheel program, five exclusive 19-inch rims as an original BMW accessory: the star-spoke designs 128, 146, 147, the cross-spoke styling 145 and the double-spoke styling 150. In the interior, the decorative trims and the shift lever finished in light or dark wood leave ample scope for individual taste.

Everything under control

If the X3 comes with an on-board monitor, it can be retrofitted with a front-end and reversing camera. The rear-end camera, which is integrated into the rear lid and features a wide-angle lens (131°), helps to prevent costly parking bumps. As soon as the car is put into reverse, video images taken by the camera are automatically relayed in colour to the display. The retrofittable, front-end prism camera with self-cleaning effect can "see round corners" so to speak, making, for instance, blind exits less dangerous. At an angle of 90°, the on-board monitor shows the traffic approaching from the left and right. The camera, which is mounted to the front bumper, is activated at the push of a separate button.

Entertainment in the rear compartment

Entertainment at its best is provided, in particular to rear-seat passengers, by the original BMW DVD Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) System featuring dual 7" monitors which is integrated into the front passenger headrests. The DVD system can be activated using an infrared remote control or by direct operation of the device. Using the two wireless infrared headphones, the rear-seat passengers can make full use of the multimedia equipment without distracting the driver. They can listen to audio CDs and even hook on a camcorder or a video game console.
