An innovative "60 miles per gallon" car in the exhibition "Energy for the future"
A smart fortwo coupé with a cdi engine is the sole car on display in the DaimlerChrysler exhibition "Energy for the future" at this year's North American International Auto Show 2004 in Detroit, which will open its doors to visitors on January 10th. "Energy for the future" presents DaimlerChrysler's roadmap for sustainable mobility and documents the group's activities and visions on this subject. The smart fortwo cdi is on show as an innovative "three litre car", or "60 miles per gallon vehicle" in the subject area "Further optimisation of combustion engines". The two-seater diesel car from smart is the most successful and best-selling "three-litre" car worldwide i.e. with a consumption of less than 4 litres per 100km. The smart fortwo cdi demonstrates that driving pleasure and environmental friendliness - demonstrated by low consumption and low emission levels - are not mutually exclusive. The presentation of the car within the framework of "Energy for the future" is the next step for smart in the communication and presentation of the brand in the USA. smart models are not yet available in the USA. Entry to the world's largest car market is planned for 2006 with a smart Sports Utility Vehicle. The smart brand was presented to the American public for the first time with resounding success in November 2003 as the official car sponsor of the New York City Marathon.
