DaimlerChrysler Heritage is breaking new ground in cultivating its tradition. From April 13 until 23, 2004, a ride in the passenger seat of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR in the spectacular classic Mille Miglia rally will be auctioned off by eBay, the online marketplace; the proceeds will go to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The highest bidder for the "Mercedes-Benz Mille Miglia Charity Drive" will participate in this year's Mille Miglia in the passenger seat next to ex Formula One driver and Le Mans winner Jochen Mass in the original car that won the 1955 race. The overall proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. With reference to the start number of Stirling Moss' car, the bidding will start at € 7.22.

Legendary rally, legendary racing car, legendary racing driver

In 1955, Stirling Moss won the Thousand Miles at the wheel of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with start number 722 in a record time that has remained unbeaten to this day: ten hours, seven minutes and 48 seconds. In precisely this car, the highest bidder will compete in the historical rally as the co-driver of Jochen Mass - a dream not just for motor sport enthusiasts and an intriguing experience for both drivers and spectators.

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation established by DaimlerChrysler and the Richemont Group pursues the aim of easing social conflicts by means of sports on a global scale. Prominent sportsmen and women support a large number of projects and form an international network, working to achieve their vision of sports having the power to change the world. Immediately after the Mille Miglia, Jochen Mass will present a check with the proceeds of the "Mercedes-Benz Mille Miglia Charity Drive" to the Foundation on the occasion of the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony in Estoril, Portugal.
