The Essen Motor Show 2003 saw Volkswagen presenting the Touareg Sport, a study version of its luxury off-road vehicle, the Touareg. This provides an insight into how, alongside the Phaeton, Volkswagen Individual AG will be expanding its range of particularly exclusive equipment details and complete vehicles on a step-by-step basis. The study underlines the Touareg's sporty on-road qualities and capabilities, and impresses with numerous exterior and interior details. For example, new 20" light metal wheels (ET 60) with five double spokes and 275/40 R20 tyres. The exterior of the Touareg Sport boasts newly designed front and rear bumpers which form a unity with powerfully arched and elegantly arranged fender flares and side skirts. Also in harmony is the new front grille design with its striking silver cross beam. The distinctive rear section of the Touareg Sport features a roof mounted spoiler along with two double-end tailpipes. The deep-blue pearl-effect paintwork is the same as the special race-version Touareg competing in the Paris-Dakar Rally. The sports theme dominates the interior as well: Leather sport seats with thicker bolsters, a strongly contoured rear seating arrangement coupled with "Engine Spin" dash and trim design specially designed for the Touareg Sport combine to make for an individualistic ambience. If enough inquiries are received, 2004 might see a limited edition of the Touareg Sport.
