Press Release
The Engine With its 500 hp / 368 kW 12-cylinder engine and two turbochargers the new Mercedes S 600 redefined the performance standards for luxury automobiles. Now BRABUS raises the bar even more. The new BRABUS S V12 Biturbo increased-displacement engine marks the top-of-the-line of the extensive BRABUS tuning program. Its 640 hp / 471 kW and gigantic maximum torque of 1,026 Nm catapult the S 600 in just 4.3 seconds to 100 km/h. The electronically limited top seed of 310 km/h make the tuned S 600 one of the world's fastest sedans. In October 1996 the BRABUS E V12 with an electronically limited top speed of 330 km/h entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Fastest Sedan." Based on the new Mercedes E-Class W211 platform BRABUS now presents the BRABUS E V12 Concept Car first shown in March 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show. This new BRABUS E V12 Concept Car is also powered by a 640 hp / 471 kW twelve-cylinder bi-turbo engine. With its top speed of 340 km/h the BRABUS E V12 Concept Car follows in the footsteps of its world-famous predecessor, which opened the door to a new level of power and performance for sporty sedans. Performance on a level of a purebred sports car in combination with the unique comfort of the Mercedes S-Class: The new BRABUS S V12 Biturbo increased-displacement engine, which is also available for the CL 600 Coupe and the SL 600 Roadster, combines these two previously almost entirely mutually exclusive characteristics to perfection. The leap from standard 500 hp / 368 kW from 5.5-liter displacement to 640 hp / 471 kW from 6.3 liters is the result of a complete redesign of the V12 with two turbochargers. The displacement increase is facilitated with a custom crankshaft milled from one piece, precision-balanced piston rods, and pistons with larger diameter. Custom camshafts with altered timing, a stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with high-flow metal catalysts and new mapping for the engine electronics complete the engine conversion. Optimal lubrication is essential with this kind of power. That's why engine, custom five-speed automatic transmission and rear differential are all operated with high-performance lubricants from BRABUS technology partner ARAL.
