Abt Sportsline's sports all-rounder
With the Abt Touareg, Abt Sportsline has been working on an off-road car for the first time. The extraordinary off-road car with the Abt look already made its debut at last year's Essen Motor Show. Meanwhile, the initial ideas have been turned into an extensive tuning programme with power increase and bodywork parts for the top-class off-road car. The Abt Touareg VS10 is taking on terrain and motorways with more than 370 hp, top-class suspension technology under its bodywork and a fascinating optic package. For Abt Sportsline's engineers, the basis has been the ten-cylinder diesel engine. In its production version, this power unit with a capacity of five litres already delivers an output of 230 kW (313 hp). After modifications on the electronic engine management, the Abt Touareg accelerates from 0-100 kph in just over seven seconds, reaches a top speed of almost 240 kph and delivers an output of 274 kW (373 hp). The torque has been increased to an incredible 860 Nm at 2000 rpm. At the same time, the engine has a significantly improved throttle response, convincing equally on the motorway and off-road.
Click for larger size Laurent Aiello is a convinced fan of the Abt Touareg VS10. The reigning German touring car champion and passionate jet-skier already fell in love with the car from Wolfsburg at first sight and is totally impressed by the Abt version of the Touareg. "For me, this car is ideal, because I like to drive fast and in a sporty way, but I also need a lot of space for my family and my sports equipment", the Frenchman says. "Incredible what Abt has made of the production model: a real highlight from the outside and the best of technology and plenty of power under the bonnet." The best of technology - this is first and foremost the result of the newly developed Abt Level-Control (ALC), which makes it possible to combine perfect off-road qualities and optically appealing lowering of the bodywork. When standing, the Abt Touareg is about 60 millimetres lower than the production model, providing perfect looks. In order to reach the optimal balance between comfort and driving dynamics while driving, the car is being raised to a lowering of approximately 30 millimetres. The "Sport"-mode allows sporty drivers to lower the Touareg by another ten millimetres while also getting a stiffer shock absorber setting. A major focus of the designers was on the outside of the so-called Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Next to a front grille, front and rear skirts and a discreet rear wing, they have also developed fender extensions, further emphasizing the dynamic appearance of the Touareg. The final look of the beholder is on the Abt exhaust silencer with its four pipes. Instead of the standard 18 inch wheels, the Abt version of the Touareg has been equipped with sports wheels in the size 10 x 22 inch including ContiSportContact tyres, guaranteeing optimal contact between power and asphalt or terrain.
