On Wednesday, former Formula One driver Jean Alesi tested the AMG Mercedes CLK-DTM at Hockenheim's 2.638 kilometre short circuit. Alesi completed a total of 42 laps in racing conditions and set a fastest time of 1min11.95sec. "The DTM could be an opportunity for my further racing career," said 37-year-old Alesi who had retired from Formula One after 201 Grands Prix at the end of the 2001 season. "I'm really pleased that Mercedes-Benz gave me the opportunity for this test. Although the track was wet and slippery all the time, driving the AMG Mercedes CLK-DTM was great fun. The brakes and the engine performance make the most significant difference between a DTM and a Grand Prix car." Commented Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Director Norbert Haug: "A driver like Jean Alesi would fit perfectly to the DTM. How he performed in today's difficult conditions showed that he would add to the attraction of this championship."Related Articles
